Alterra Mountain Company recently announced plans to invest more than half a billion dollars over five years and $130 million for winter 2018/2019 into its 12 destination resorts. The capital improvements include everything from new chairlifts and snowmaking operations to restaurant renovations and enhanced summer offerings. The broad scope of Alterra’s investment was based on individual mountain needs and input from guests.
Alterra Mountain Company’s 12 mountain destinations include Steamboat and Winter Park Resort in Colorado; Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, Mammoth Mountain, June Mountain and Big Bear Mountain Resort in California; Stratton in Vermont; Snowshoe in West Virginia; Tremblant in Quebec, Blue Mountain in Ontario; Deer Valley Resort in Utah; and CMH Heli-Skiing & Summer Adventures in British Columbia.

Improvements for 2018/2019 Ski Season
Winter Park Resort, CO: The new Zephyr Gondola will replace the Zephyr Express Quad, increasing uphill capacity to 3,200 guests per hour. In addition, Winter Park’s 42-year old snowmaking operation will get a substantial overhaul with a new energy efficient system that aims to improve the resort’s early-season offerings.
Mammoth Mountain, CA: The Canyon Lodge will receive a facelift over the next two years, including a new retail space, snow beach area, and food and beverage services, designed to position Canyon Lodge as “the Day Lodge of the future.” After eating state-of-the-art cheese fries, guests can choose from a number of new summer adventure sport offerings available for fall 2018, including North America’s longest top to bottom zipline tour, rock climbing and junior ropes courses.
Steamboat, CO: The Bear River Restaurant, a popular après destination, is getting a big makeover for 2018/2019, including a new design, increased seating capacity, kitchen and menu.
Stratton, VT: The Snowbowl Chairlift, a high-speed detachable lift, will replace the 31-year-old fixed grip quad.
Tremblant, Quebec: Tremblant will receive a new high-speed, four-passenger detachable chairlift and energy-efficient snowmaking along the upper portion of the Algonquin Trail.

>Big Bear, CA: Plans include enhancements to current facilities and the resort’s learn to ski area.
>Snowshoe, WV:A new snowmaking system will be implemented for 2018/2019, allowing for more open terrain in early December while reducing energy usage.
Additional capital improvement projects will be announced in the fall.
