Eagles Continue To Invest In Defensive Line With Haloti Ngata

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has entered this offseason more determined than ever to win. Because of that, an already tremendous defensive line has gotten better with two terrific moves pulled off by the reigning executive of the year.

Former Detroit Lions defensive tackle Haloti Ngata intends to sign a one-year deal with the Eagles. Ngata joins former Seattle Seahawks pass rusher Michael Bennett, who arrived in a trade last week for a swap of draft picks and special teams player Marcus Johnson.

Ngata reunites with former Baltimore executives Joe Douglas and Andy Weidl, who run the Eagles player personnel department. Douglas has carried a large voice in the Eagles last two free agency periods, adding Timmy Jernigan in a trade with the Ravens.

CLEVELAND, OH – SEPTEMBER 21: Isaiah Crowell

After playing nine years in Baltimore and winning a Super Bowl ring, Ngata went to the Detroit Lions in a trade that involved three draft picks being swapped. After signing a two-year deal, Ngata missed nearly the entire 2017 season with a bicep injury.

Philadelphia’s defense line now includes Bennett, Ngata, Jernigan, Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, Chris Long, and first round pick Derek Barnett, who recovered Tom Brady’s fumble in the Super Bowl. It’s a fearsome group that continues to get better everytime people think it can not.

More from NFL Free Agency

Roseman cleared salary cap this week by restructuring Lane Johnson’s contract, clearing about $7 million after sitting more than $11 million over the cap. Pass rusher Vinny Curry is expected to be moved, clearling even more cap for Philadelphia.

Wide receiver Torry Smith was traded to Carolina for cornerback Daryl Worley, saving the Eagles Smith’s $5 million cap hit.

Cornerback Patrick Robinson and linebacker Nigel Bradham are free agents and the Eagles appear willing to negotiate with both of them. Robinson has gotten the most noise despite the acquisition of Worley from Carolina.

Tight end Trey Burton, who threw a touchdown pass to Nick Foles in the Super Bowl, is reportedly signing with Chicago
